Code of Ethics for the Teaching Profession in South Australia

At the heart of the teaching profession in South Australia is a commitment to the education, learning, protection and well being of learners. The Code of Ethics upholds three core values underpinning the teaching profession: integrity, respect and responsibility.

Integrity

We are honest and trustworthy in our relationships, upholding the dignitiy and honour of the profession.


Respect

We act with courtesy and compassion and advocate for learners, acknowledging and valuing learners' diverse backgrounds, abilities and behaviours. We foster critical thinking and action, valuing the contributions of our educational communities, to influence positive futures.


Responsibility

We provide high quality teaching and care through continuing our professional learning, working with our educational partners in the best interest of learners and upholding our professional standards.

In carrying out my duties:
  • I accept the responsibility to provide meaningful learning experiences to students in their care in the belief that all students have the capacity and the right to learn.
  • I will act with honesty and dignity, respecting the rights of parents to be partners in the education of their children and of families to have their privacy protected and their cultures acknowledged and valued in the school community.
  • I will honour the trust placed in me by students, parents and colleagues by ensuring that they I the professional knowledge required for quality teaching, and at all times behave in ways that promote the profession.
